I know that engrain + glue = garbage, but I still put glue in the dado, on the theory that some of it will squeeze into the edges (and on soft wood, end grain is porous, so some blue might actually grab the side grain of the end grain!!)
Yep. If you break out the machinist calipers, measure your wood, and dial in your dado width to + 0.001 / - 0.0, the whole thing hangs together pretty damned well without glue / screws / nails. Not that I'd every do that, but belt and suspenders. I can pick up and move unglued
