I defaulted on several student loans partially because I lost track of them and partially because living alone in Manhattan is expensive. At times, I bought things like fancy drinks and health insurance for my dogs rather than dealing with the loans.
based on my l̶e̶g̶a̶l̶ ̶d̶e̶g̶r̶e̶e̶ ̶f̶r̶o̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶I̶v̶y̶ ̶L̶e̶a̶g̶u̶e̶ ̶l̶a̶w̶ ̶s̶c̶h̶o̶o̶l̶ reading of reddit, you can / should just ask each of these places for proof of the debt, and proof that they own it.

Two possible outcomes: (a) they can produce it, and now you know who to pay (b) they can't, and then you send them a letter saying "you can't produce proof; never call me against at risk of ass whopping"

if there were somewhere I could just go online and make an offer on the debt to clear it, I would do that, it's got to be worth so little by now. but I don't want to call these people.

I read something about that, but they technically only have to respond in first x amount of time after they reach out? idk. they just call you awhile and then sell it again. nothing else has ever happened in 6 years

Pretty interesting that they give up so easily. For a debt that can't even be wiped by bankruptcy, in theory... Maybe you need a startup that will automatically deal with them for you
