A thread wherein I argue with someone who, like me, wants to get rid of or scale down the FDA and USDA. The topic itself is meh, but it ties into post rationality, bayesianism, a kind of argument I dislike even when (especially when) it's for a goal I agree with.https://twitter.com/MorlockP/status/1119934376542793728 …

You get to the heart of a matter that irritates me about libertarians and others. I think you're right, tearing down system X does not imply system Y will rise up from the ashes.

It plays into my thinking on government too. That is, "government" is merely the name we give to the system society organises itself with. Much of gov is not written down. People organize naturally into many shapes based on the people themselves. Want gov X? Use people Y.

I think this also makes anarchy less about "no government!" And more about "tear down this government!" At it's core, every gov needs legitimacy. Anarchy is a claim that gov X has no right to make decisions about people Y.

If gov is people doing stuff together, then unless an anarchist doesn't ever work with anyone they don't hate gov per se. They hate gov X that tyrannizes them. I'm not fully happy with that line of reasoning, needs more work.

> if X then Y * I don't accept X even if I accept X for purposes of debate, I don't agree w the rest of the argument.
