True but also diseconomies. 3000 means effluence management, disease mgmt, large tractors/semi w/trailer + maintenance + transpo costs of hundreds of miles - retailer/wholesaler's cut. Much of this system is subsidized as well.

And if you're doing mob grazing, the actual fenced area at any given time is small. Also, a lot of feed is done through foraging. For pigs you have to supplement, but ruminants simply eat grass.

Have you done this, or have you just read Joel Saletin?

I worked on a sheep farm in Weston, MO that does mob grazing. The actual movement of sheep takes almost no time at all. The time suck for them was milking. https://greendirtfarm.com/

My family also runs a corn/soy/cattle farm in KS. 3 tractors, a combine, 2 semi trucks and more than 1000 of acres of land to produce a commodity, the price of which you don't control and you're always paying down debt because it's so capital intensive.

Doing it on 40 acres doesn't make the market price any more controllable

It kind of does because when you're selling directly to your customers, neighbors and local businesses, a President that randomly shuts off trade w/China or sets tarrifs/quotas doesn't mean much to you. We just have to sit here and eat shit because politics turned off soy market.

Ok, so small farms mean that politicians can't shut off trade?

A lot harder to stop me from selling beef to my neighbor than to Fu Xiaosheng in Chengdu, but yes, your'e right. It's possible for the government to interfere in domestic trade.

Your entire argument started with the fact that the government ALREADY DOES. At this point I'm not sure what you're arguing. I'm going to bed.
