I find it odd to call remarks "outrageous". This sounds like a testable hypothesis. Why, post-Enlightenment, would anyone ever choose to take the Dark Age path of being outraged when they can instead gather data and test a hypothesis? Sad. https://twitter.com/georgeeaton/status/1115926643799932929 …

2/ I find it interesting how you capitalized the 'e' in the word 'each', giving the impression that it was the beginning of the sentence...when, in fact, you've removed the first 2/3 of the sentence where he talks about ideological indoctrination. https://twitter.com/georgeeaton/status/1115926971819732992 …

3/ And then, of course, after
@georgeeaton selectively edits the quote to remove part about ideological indoctrination,@jkbloodtreasure pushes the meaning further, to imply that it's about looks. None of us is stupid enough to think Scruton is stupid enough to think Chinese all look the same. But he's well smart enough to play on the trope. Dogs don't have thumbs, but they can hear whistles.

So a righty says "the Chinese state indoctrinates people" and other righties say "oh, that's bad", but a lefties look at this and say "ok, we're going to ignore both the literal meaning of the words AND what the audience claims to hear, because we know what they REALLY mean" ?

Replying to @MorlockP @amendlocke and
That seems like the opposite of steel-manning. Is there any possible way for righties to express concern about ideological indoctrination, or do you map every possible expression of concern to "well OBVIOUSLY their TRUE concern is racism" ?

Replying to @MorlockP @amendlocke and
Because if the latter, then you've constructed an airtight ideological / epistemological bubble that forces you to ignore EVERYTHING from outside, because you already know the truth. ...which seems fairly totalitarian / anti-Enlightenment, no?

And, tact #2 on this: if the case against his stance is so strong, why was it necessary to massage the quote by deleting 2/3 of it and capitalizing a word to hide the edit? Deception seems like a strategy of weakness, not strength.pic.twitter.com/396NDYi7vJ
