GP GP *whispers* the civil rights era, legally, was a constitutional abomination but an arguably necessary one. allowing law to bend to morals by judicial fiat led to an era in which liberals/progressives think the unelected branch is the one to legislate morals. @molratty

GP Let us agree to disagree on this one narrow point. The remainder is correct, which is the larger point. Civil Rights Era in the judiciary ushered in activist judges (or cemented the New Deal Era practice) ignoring their limits.

We agree that the GOALS of the civil rights era were laudable. The harm done by legislating from the bench outweighed the improvements, which could have (and would have) come in a decade or two.
