"Although it lacks the elegance of a tale by Fritz Leiber, this story will appeal to fans of the genre." Jim Breyfogle is no Fritz Leiber, but if you like Fritz Leiber, you'll probably dig Jim Breyfogle! https://www.tangentonline.com/print--quarterly-reviewsmenu-261/292-cirsova/4124-cirsova-11-spring-2019 …

Also now I want to read
@JonWeichsel's story. I am becoming more convinced that modern readers/reviewers have been too inculcated with this idea that the genres lines are sacrosanct. What jars Victoria may well be a throwback to a more wondrous time in SFF.3 replies 1 retweet 6 likes -

Also, the bit about Moonshot... It's the sort of story a magazine like Planet would run when it was dipping its toe into the Campbellian science fiction, spoofing the hard numbers and serious science juxtaposed against a ridiculous situation [sending cows to the moon].

I cannot achieve total immersion in a story if the writer can't be bothered to do his research on the maximum airspeed velocity a cow could achieve when launched into the upper atmosphere.
