Five to ten years ago, anti-anti-vaccine people seemed to do more linking to studies rebutting anti-vax studies. But now there’s a lot more confidence, but a lot more people taking claims on faith.

To be clear, all else being equal it’s reasonably safe to just blindly trust authority figures—we obviously vaccinated our kids, and I didn’t do any serious research on it.

But it’s unfortunate that vaccination has become a way to 1) signal superiority to people who Don’t Believe In Science, while 2) getting a lot less science-driven.

It’s the same attitude towards Science that Daniel Dennett believes the religious have towards faith: they don’t actually believe in it, but strongly believe in belief.
