No, it's protein starvation. Without another fat source, rabbit meat is too lean to sustain humans for more than a week or so before illness sets in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein_poisoning …

You are correct in identifying the two more commonly-used phrases :). But there is no canonical one, and my idiosyncratic usage is still an accurate description of what is happening (starving ON protein).
