I feel like that's a needlessly reductive(?) take. What about guys who were making $10/hr building houses back then? I just messaged my dad to find out what he was making onna road crew that same year. Will report back.
-
Dad reports he was making 3.85 (min wage) on road crew in 1978 or 79. So maybe my mom's wage was seriously high

I'd be asking her if that union job still existed.
-
Long gone obviously and I don't know enough to guess how much the Union aspect distorted the wage.

Further questions Morlock, whats your take on the "Wages have been stagnated for the last 40 years" thing people are talking about? That's really what I'm curious about.
-
Not all wages! Deregulation & increasing returns bc of tech mean that wages of high skill jobs have done VERY well. Wages for low end jobs are stagnant tho. When you're competing against machines, and/or peasants overseas, and add very little value...that's not gonna get good pay

A 40 hr/week software engineer can do that just as a 40 hr/week grocery stocker can.
