2/ entirely at ease with the criticism that official narratives support the aims of the rich and powerful ! One need not postulate totalitarian thought control, outright lies, etc., but merely a slight bit of selective pressure - nudges, with dollars - at the margins.

Certainly agreed! I took the original tweet as sarcasm, because we get so many climate scientists saying that XYZ event is evidence of climate change.
