There is, and has been since at least the medieval period, proof that intelligence, properly so-called, is substantially immaterial and thus is not capable of being derived through the reorganization of matter (such as patterns on a magnetic disk).

I agree that intelligence may be immaterial and that the soul definitely is. However, it may be that God, perceiving a level of computational power sufficient to create a p-zombie, chooses to imbue it with self awareness. So, in the same way that two parents create a child but

in book 3 of the Artistillus book I have the blue phyle Dogs doing adoration of the host, because the Vatican hasn't yet approved them as having souls / capable of being Catholic, but the Dogs still feel pulled towards God.

That’s neat! Still not a soul in the human sense, though. Worship itself isn’t that, since I’m one of those “Yes, the trees are gonna clap their hands and the stones sing GLORY” Christians. Not sure *exactly* what that means/metaphysically entails, but it’s gonna happen.

Seems to me that creating sentience and being is both easy and common. The trick God is pulling off with humans is *theosis* - which is quite another thing, and one that I truthfully only half-grasp at the best of times.
