After I finish the next two (final two?) Aristillus books, I'll move on to something new.
I'd been thinking vaguely of a near future apocalypse, off in the direction of @JohnBarnesSF Directive 51 or Varley's Slow Apocalypse (both of which are great).

4/ My first conception was merely a serial adventure, but I'm thinking that there could be several much deeper plot lines. Expect it in bookstores everywhere c. 2035 (or 2045) AD

5/ Nope, totally distinct universe. No connection to the Aristillus series. Yes, there are a few remaining pockets of civilization. Very VERY scared by the apocalypse.
