Lawyer defended his failure to get me an engagement letter in 5 weeks since he said he would (despite 2 follow ups by me) by saying "we've been very busy; it's not personal" To the contrary; I take this incompetence and lying ("we'll get that out to you today") VERY personally.

Bad sign. It's common, which is because bad is common. Run. Fly like the wind. Find someone who wants your business.

That instinct is strong in me. ...but it is countered by the fact that I called several firms, and none of them did zoning / regulatory issues, all recommended this firm. Asked a state legislator friend; he recommended same firm. Not sure what my plan B is here.

Ah. That changes the equation. If the own the zoning law biz in the area, you need them more than they need you. It takes 5 minutes to get the letter out, but if you have nowhere else to go, you're fucked.

I hired a lawyer for a criminal thing. Old guy. While we were sitting in the benches in court waiting for our turn, he fell asleep. When it was our turn he said the right things to the judge and *poof* it all just went away.

I didn't say I was going to ask you in PUBLIC I'm going to ask you via email. I mean, there's NO WAY you might just silently ignore an email. For days. Or weeks. Or months. ... or YEARS.

All three of you are dicks. Scott, being a lawyer, is probably some more sophisticated, bespoke type of dick. Never returns calling cards, maybe?
