hippy kumbaya: peoples gently merge together, diversity giving rise to a beautiful melange ... like what's going on now in the US and Europe! hard DNA science: when populations "merge" the men of one kill all of the men of the other, and take their women https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/magazine/ancient-dna-paleogenomics.html …

So mass migrations replace, rather than assimilate. Hmmm, seems relevant.

One group of men also rape the other groups women routinely to force the takeover And women who resist are murdered as an example of what not to do for other women watching. Think sweden.

Seems like the history of ALL natural biodiversity demonstrates over time species tend to *diverge* rather than *converge,* & competing species will either eradicate their rivals or enter a dynamic equilibrium. I'm no expert. Do species EVER converge through interbreeding?

I get that co-existence and symbiosis is ABSOLUTELY possible, but nature seems to reject the idea that any form of life would converge towards one unified amalgam of the whole which then proceeds to live in complete peace amongst themselves.

I thought that was only true of the neolithic period.

Not only neolithic. The same process that gave rise to the "bottlenecked" Y chromosome occurred during Spain's conquest of Central and South America.

The management of conflicts of interest with non-kin, one of only two unique human attributes. What enabled one group to replace another was not a function of what was in their genes (on this time scale) but what was projected from their hands.pic.twitter.com/BTLQ5Xk9bo

Male lions do the same to the cubs of a rival male when they kill him and take over a pride.
