I guess one advantage of organized religion is it at least firewalled this tedious constant moralizing to one day of the week. I'm not here to be sermonized at by a toilet company, god damn.

organized religion meant that if someone felt an overwhelming need to go be holy, there were prescribed methods available that were mostly prosocial or at least neutral as opposed to puritan-descended SJ, where the usual option is some variant on "go be a busybody"
