I'd suggest a more modest proposal: realize that our current incarceration system was invented 300+ years ago to punish slaves and vagrants and decide it should re-examined in most cases.

This is already the scam for traffic tickets. It happened to me not so long ago: - BS ticket (non-speeding, non-reckless) cost $185 - "You can be on probation for one year, and if you get no further tickets we drop it BUT you also pay $225 for this privilege"
