Finally clicked for me a couple months back. The wall, once built, is harder to tear down than any single policy Trump could get passed. Democrats would certainly undo any immigration policy... but even they are unlikely to support demolishing a wall that's built.

I wonder what happens if (when) the wall runs over budget if the Dems control purse-strings. Seems like they'd just cut off the funds. But if wall gets *completed* they will instantly become pro-wall to the extent it can be used to line crony pockets.
