25/ Concur with most of this. I honestly don't like Scalzi's writing - I think it's trite and not good. But that's because his writing is bad, not just bc he is. There are hard lefties who write amazing SF.https://twitter.com/shapr/status/1078386601955332096 …
Also now SF is actually now dying, most readers does not want to read it anymore. Only a select few, they want to read bc they think most SF is all hard SF with complex ideas. Nobody cares about ideas anymore.
Also ppl think everything written before 2005 is now basically all outdated, especially SF in ideas and technology bc to most ppl, history does not matter anymore, only the present matters and exists anymore.
And many think that just something is written before social media, they are basically automatically all cliche.
Its is nice that SF Masterworks is available in the UK, making more ppl find, discover, and read vintage SF, but I would like to see how SF Masterworks are really selling compared to their new releases.
Also the culture is now more likely to basically shifted towards all new releases or a 1 or 2 yr old bk bc that is what is being marketed and make more money rather than backlists, partly due to social media. Its many times all I see being promoted and talked about at all.
Now the culture has come to wanting the newest releases asap that they discuss it as soon as an idea or plan is out, to the point ppl want the ARC 6 month in advance of the release day. That is how obsessed ppl have become about new releases now.
