As long as there's not deep snow on the ground, I actively LIKE feeding the outdoor woodstove twice a day. One can work 8 hrs to write a layer that fragments data blobs across multiple rows and the monkey brain shrugs and says "eh". ...but carry wood for 20 min? Brain happy.

I recently started learning how to do metal and wood work for exactly this reason. It's satisfying in a way that writing cannot be.

I recall reading that this is the idea behind Ikea and other 'self-assembly' furniture brands. People derive a much larger feeling of accomplishment and attachment to a piece of furniture if they put it together themselves. If they harvested all the materials to build it too...
