There's a book called "Jefferson's PIllow" by a lefty Black academic that talks about some of the founding fathers in relation to slavery. I heard him in an interview saying he came away more impressed with Washington and less so with Jefferson. Which plays to my priors...

Generally. He concluded that for all his talk, Jefferson's actions never seem to reflect is stated beliefs. Washington, he opined, came to more and more believe the rhetoric. In the end, it was Washington who provided for the freedom of his slaves (and a pension).

The best assessment of Washington's character (who was not a saint by any means) came from George III

I think Jefferson was one of Marx's Haute Bourgesois. The rhetoric or revolutionary fervor came from wanting to be the one in power (as opposed to those actually in power) and not from a real belief in freedom. His belief in himself always remained above his belief of others.

I don't get that. I get a "the less I know people, the more I love them" vibe. Like most spergs. He liked the French Revolution bc he loved the mass of people IN THE ABSTRACT. He wanted them to have power.
