Maybe this kind of cognitive dissonance seems unlikely to you. But should it be, in light of a "libertarian" who very much wants to collectivize, centralize and accumulate power in the federal government such that it can effect policies that amount to moral socialism

I thought they were less likely to support environmental and land-use regulations. Their support for the War on Some Drugs might have been due to an attempt to appeal to what they think conservatives want. They might even think that objection is a matter of moving the goalposts.
