It is hard to believe that the U.S. doesn't have a landed aristocracy class of sorts when the DC-Virginia Area is composed of families that got wealthy by currying favor and jobs from the government, and use this wealth to train up their kids to take on those same jobs...

...and basically creating an insular culture around their government-paid positions which they hand down to their kids or pass around to each others' kids as if they were Noble ranks. From the outside it looks like a completely closed loop into which we feed our tax dollars.
