Went out to talk f2f w neighbor. He screamed at me for 20 minutes. Another neighbor wandered over to join in. Apparently "we people" should "go back to MA" because "we're all the same" & this isn't the first time I've "stolen land". (I think she's referring to the surveyor?)

5/ And, of course, it feels great to have three people at once screaming at you because "you're rich" and "hire farmhands" and "don't know what it's like to work for a living." (I've worked two jobs most of the time I've been in NH, in addition to splitting wood, farming...)

6/ Related: I'm convinced that most medieval anti-Semitism was just the form of the resentment othat mediocre iq and conscientiousness people had against people who could see 2 moves ahead).

7/ Anyway, I stood and listened and responded, but it didn't do any good. Now I'm jacked up on jittering anxiety and suppressed anger and a boiling sense of unfairness (because I'M RIGHT and I tried to help him every step of the way, and now I'm the bad guy) with no outlet.

somewhere i once read that the way to deal with a screaming asshole is to match intensity and then de-escalate. i have no idea if that actually works, but it'd probably be good for a laugh in this kind of situation

That's interesting; I've never heard or tried that but it seems plausible, and a neat API hack if it works. Please report back with any findings on this matter that any of us might happen to collect in the near future
