Interesting essay. I admit that I used to be cynical about adults reading YA (thinking that they did it mostly bc they didn't want to be challenged by more complicated fiction), but a few twitter peeps argued otherwise - as does this essay.

2/ I've been thinking recently about YA, and how it serves to expose youth to certain viewpoints. Heinlein juveniles certainly shaped me, to a large degree. I'm not sure if I could write YA bc it's a different challenge - simplifying instead of complexifying.

3/ ...and, to be clear, I'm not saying "Gosh, I don't know if my galaxy brain could write something so simplistic." Simple and good is harder than complex and good! I can dazzle, to some degree, by having lots of overlapping plots, etc. Harder to do one thing simply & well.
