2/ I've been thinking recently about YA, and how it serves to expose youth to certain viewpoints. Heinlein juveniles certainly shaped me, to a large degree. I'm not sure if I could write YA bc it's a different challenge - simplifying instead of complexifying.

3/ ...and, to be clear, I'm not saying "Gosh, I don't know if my galaxy brain could write something so simplistic." Simple and good is harder than complex and good! I can dazzle, to some degree, by having lots of overlapping plots, etc. Harder to do one thing simply & well.

This + Moldbug = read old YA books. I've been reading a buch of early-20th C stuff lately: Biggles, The Famous Five, Tom Swift, Nancy Drew. Interesting perspective.

My favorite YA is the Jumper books by Stephen Gould. Surprisingly hard on the SF side, and really compelling plots while maintaining a nice simplicity and positive tone
