Yup. Local BN has a substantial toy dept. Not a lot of options, but what's there matches the clientele - what they have is good enough for what most are looking for.

there seems to be a general replacement of digital media floorspace with physical toy floorspace across B&N, walmart, gamestop, etc

Now that Toys'R'Us is out, there are no dominant brick-and-mortar toy stores. Also, the B&N toys section caters to both the semi-educational yuppie parent and the board-game-lite geek. It's a niche, but it will be a profitable niche for at least a few years.

That's been going on for a while. When I left them a few years ago toys and board games were our largest expanded department.
