You shoot cows where you come from? I'm guessing you're not from America's Dairyland.
The butchering manual I use explains that using a gun is the correct method for small farms. I've used .22, but found that .40 is more consistently sufficient. Not sure how you slaughter the pigs and cows you raise. /shrug

Keep shrugging. My (much older) brother married a farm chick who lived on a dairy farm. I was there all the time when I was a kid. No cows were shot. As far as hogs, there's no way they were in Montana 20 or 30 years ago. The whole thing is a lie.

Ok, so your sister in law never shot a cow, therefore no one does, even though the butchering manuals explain that that's one of two ways to do it. Well argued.
