Living in NH, I hear a ton about "the opioid epidemic". There's a libertarian macho flash that goes "ha ha, let them just OD and die; FREEDOM, bitches!!! lulz!" I'm not going to say that.

Joseph Campbell alluded American drug culture was a way for people to have a mystical experience in a society that was more intellectual/less spiritual & that lacked any recognizable right of passage. Everybody's looking for the Hero's Journey. Some just look in different places.
