Living in NH, I hear a ton about "the opioid epidemic". There's a libertarian macho flash that goes "ha ha, let them just OD and die; FREEDOM, bitches!!! lulz!" I'm not going to say that.

of course, some people do that. my understanding is that other people get hooked on prescription drugs (even legally obtained), and later lose access to them. since getting unhooked from narcotics can be difficult and/or expensive, many turn to street drugs.
