I think it's plausible that "real" trans is a thing. Unclear to me. Why privilege the body over the mind? Not saying I'm arguing the other way. Just saying that I don't think "change the brain" is a slam dunk.

I guess my point is that if we could 'cure' *other* mental maladies by conducting extensive surgery on the body, OR we could cure it by prescribing drugs and therapy, why would we ever choose the former? If amputating certain fingers could cure depression, who would choose that?

If drugs/therapy are the demonstrably the cheaper, quicker, less risky option, would rational people still choose to go under the knife instead? I'm not saying they shouldn't be *allowed* to, but from a pure utilitarian standpoint, I don't see how that's ideal.
