Me: "here is a thing I want to do, and the result will be clean, affordable, and look very nice" Internet: "no, don't do that; here's a different approach that satisfies criteria you don't have, and fails to satisfy criteria you do"

The hassle is not just carrying a 5 gal carboy up and down stairs. It's using the destemmer in cramped quarters in the workshop, having to move it to clean it, having to do wine processes in the basement w no running water, etc.

:) :) :) Any one of these things is def a 1st world problem. However, when "hassle" makes up 90% of the task, and there are 15 different tasks (make wine, butcher pigs, store pumpkins, etc.), then throwing money at that 90% is difference between "do 15 things" and "do 2".

And it really is the case that the PREVENTABLE overhead is a very large percent of the work of each of these.

...and as long as that 90% is there, it's demoralizing to both
@LibertyFarmNH and myself bc "everything is hard, all the time, and you never get to rest". So "food room" addition will make many things MUCH easier.4 replies 0 retweets 12 likes -

that's about my budget for the garage addition * foundation below frost line * concrete floor * 2,000 ft^2 * lights * floor drains (connect to septic tank) * hot and cold running water * 3/4 bath (w shower) * temp controlled room for aging wine, etc.

no, this is a good and useful suggestion that does not contradict two or more of the things I just said; it is therefore unlike most of the suggestions I get! :)
