Palladium as the Sid and Marty Krofft of RPGs. I could buy that.

the intersection of "could buy" as a rhetorical tool and as a statement of future purchase

oh, related: reviews of b-day presents: * 2300 AD (previously "Traveller 2300"): good fun, hard-ish science. I read RPGs mostly for the world building, and this is good solid near-future one. Simulation, not story telling.

* The End of the World RPG: Zombie Apocalypse light weight, both in fluff and cruft. I knew that before wishlisting it. Amazon reviews are 3.5 avg, which is about right. Provides some mechanics that a very skilled GM can use to flesh out his own intuitions.

* Tales from the Loop - great retro (1980s) fun to read. Have only skimmed. I think the "you are 12-15 yo kids and there are robots and poorly secured science facilities all around" is going to be too unrealistic for me to want to play it

"kids-and-robots is too unrealistic for me to want to play it" - This seems like a beautiful summary of your aesthetics. :)
