Whoa. That is a hell of an idea. But it would need a lot of power, right? Solar? Fusion plants that need to be refueled?

My bachelors thesis was on lasers, so the optical drive stuff was right in my wheelhouse. Repairing an optical drive usually means replacing the laser diode, which has to be focused and collimated to a fine degree. A little less so for laser printers, another project I was on
