I had conversations with Jerry about returning to that world or another take on the story in a later era better equipped to track and react to the comet. It's something he thought about a fair bit but it never really came together.

He and Larry did have a project called 'Anvil' that I saw a few bits of but health issues, I believe, kept it from from getting very far.

IIRC, it was revisiting the basic big object coming problem of LH, in a later era, rather than a direct sequel.

If somebody wanted to do a book in homage to LH, I don't think anyone sane would be offended so long as it was good. Heck, it could be two or more books in adjoining universes. We can stop it, we can't stop it, we can make it less severe, etc.

A very powerful tool for creating interesting original fiction is to find a work you admire whose flaws you can see, and then write what it would have been like if it had been good.
