I need to play some board games.
Badly.
Yet I live in the middle of nowhere.
What is the canonically correct solution? I figure you two must know.

There are ways to play many and various board games over the internet, and while I am quite eager to (someday) do so with my non-local e-friends, IMHO it's akin to piloting a drone through a museum. Something's missing from the experience; much better to be there in person.

Also IMHO the best board gaming experiences are with people who are or eventually will become your friendly acquaintances. Repeat exposure to the same people - assuming they are at least slightly better than tolerable - deepens the familiarity and improves the gaming sessions.
