There are ways to play many and various board games over the internet, and while I am quite eager to (someday) do so with my non-local e-friends, IMHO it's akin to piloting a drone through a museum. Something's missing from the experience; much better to be there in person.

yeah but say that you're kinda so bumbed out by the lack of anything fun in your life that you're thinking about rolling the tractor over on purpose just to feel something in that case how would I play a game

Option 1: App implementations. Many games have iOS/Android/PC(Steam) implementations. These let you play against AI or human opponents. There are definitely drawbacks in that they tend to deracinate the social experience to uselessness. And eliminate the tactile experience.
-
Option 2: Vassal or Tabletop Simulator. These are PC engines that run fan-made implementations of board games. No automatic pairing with opponents, but the few times I’ve tried Vassal the social part wasn’t too bad. Downsides: you need to know the game already, clunky interfaces.

Getting back to the original post: what kind of gaming are you looking for? Social? Competitive? Deep strategy euro? Collectible Card Game? Relaxing solo game? Literally anything? If I know more about your ideal game, I may be able to suggest a specific plan to pursue it.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Ok. Get 2 game apps. First, the Suburbia app is a good implementation with a challenging solo campaign. Second, either the Star Realms app or get Slay the Spire on Steam for a deckbuilder.
-
You might also look for an Android app called Isla Rica.
