2/ I got a really itchy feeling from the whole thing, and - for both that and other reasons - ended up terminating our relationship and asking him to withdraw my novel from the publishing houses he'd submitted it to.

Just read a little about this guy and the other recent agent controversy. Kinda puts the whole "agent" business under a spotlight, and make you wonder - "... tell me again why this is a thing?"

bad reason: any time there are calories, living things will wedge themselves in the value stream and try to harvest some mediocre reason: we're wired as social animals good reason: reputation capital is real; it helps publishers to have trusted agents who pre-filter for quality
