In most (not all) of the sci-fi futures I've imagined, most people who care about freedom eventually abandon Earth to the authoritarians.

Yep. It's why I like my primary residence being out in the country where there aren't cops driving within 20 meters of my home several times a day.

I am half Dutch, seriously thinking about moving back there for a few years if I could find work.

I couldn't handle European population densities (which seem like a really good data point for the argument "high density = big gov")

I've heard they have farms in Europe, too

population density of netherlands: 1,312 people per mi2 average low density areas are 25-260/km^2 = 62 - 6,500 / mi^2 logarithmic mean of that is ~1,500 ? That's 10 times denser than my town...WHICH IS TOO DENSE.pic.twitter.com/MGHUSxs0oT

Huh. Because of this, I dug into population densities in comparable areas in various parts of NL and NH... ... and I am very, very surprised at how much more dense even the rural areas in NL are compared to the rural-but-still-actually-occupied areas in NH.

I'm not!
I've got a friend in NL who wants a farm some day, so I did a bunch of reading about NL farms, pop densities, etc.
