When progs use the term folks, it sounds like a fox that clucks like a hen. Manipulative language to make their top-down, condescending ideas "folksy" and palatable to the proles.

Dunno that he's wrong, but is that the purpose of the library? It used to be: to have books. I've been in several, recently, where many bookstacks had gone. In their place, computers. So obscure books are gone. Popular books are still there, but also online, so what's the point?

The popularity contest doesn't favor the curation of time, but the quick turnover of retail. Libraries need to find their niche again, and competing with BigA isn't it. Neither is empty community center... IMHO.

I thought the purpose of libraries was "take your kids there so they learn to like books and reading."
