7/ I'm reminded of a story from 2 or 3 years back. A firm had TOTALLY fubared their schedule and had a massive do-or-die deliverable, worth millions to the end customer. ...and the guy who was going to do X quit / was fired. Two people inside the firm recommended me.

8/ I came in, aced the interview, saw THROUGH the technical interview to the real problem, and sold them on THAT. "You have a major problem, but THAT IS OK. I AM WILLING TO WORK 60 HOUR WEEKS UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE. I GOT THIS." I then left the interview w zero words re salary.

11/ I was live-narrating this in a Slack w friends. One of them - young, junior, asked "what the hell do you expect to accomplish with that?" Me: "I expect the phone to ring again within 15 minu- hang on, the phone is ringing." It actually was. Best dramatic timing EVER.

12/ So they met the compensation, and I worked for 6 months, and I saved their bacon, and we delivered to the customer. And at the end of the 6 month contract they tried to re-up me.
