Progs upset that Musk (correctly) pointed out that a person who said X was a politician and not one of the divers or other experts engaged in the rescue. Oddly, in other contexts progs get upset when Republican politicians have opinions on science or tech, bc "defer to experts". https://twitter.com/halleluyang/status/1016878597104025600 …

OK, but Musk is still a huckster and a conman grifting his entire fortune off our tax dollars.

He's never sold a product that wasn't subsidized; his net worth is composed mostly of the inflated stock for his car company that has never and likely will never turn a profit.

ebay was subsidized? SpaceX was subsidized? Pretty sure it's their competitors, ULA, that gets $1B / yr in subsidies. What subsidies does Boring Company get?

Look- I get why science fiction people like Elon, but I find the fact that he's built so much on his subsidies repugnant. He had next to nothing to do with eBay, SpaceX is a government contractor and Boring Company is a novelty.

Yes, but there are a whole bunch of launches with NASA as the customer in there. This is like denying Boeing or OshKosh are government contractors.

is Apple a government contractor, given that the USG buys desktop computers? is Ford? is Miller Electric, bc USG buys welding machines? is Staples? if you want to be pedantic, then, yes, they all are. But in the real world, SpaceX is selling a product that MANY people buy

and they're doing it in competition against people who are getting actual subsidies while they are not. ...and they are doing it at half the price (or less) that the competitors are doing it at. Why are you upset that Musk is saving taxpayers money?
