I've been there. Got years past burnout. I was lucky enough that - even though I was too stubborn to make a change - the universe kicked me in the butt and made it happen. Maybe you're smarter than me, and can make the change on your own terms?

Absolutely! I suppose the biggest lesson is "once you know it's a dead-end path, admit it to yourself. Fully. Don't let expectations - your own, old, wrong ones, or those of other people - dissuade you from making the change that will save your life / sanity."

Another is: beware of status screwing with you. Perhaps you've got a self conception that says 'I'm a success as long as I'm self-employed / in marketing / running a business / employing others'. Interrogate that. Is that REALLY success, or just a phrase that your stuck wi?

If it's not the real definition of success - if it's just an imposter - then start to think about the unthinkable. Often, when you confront "failure" and think it through, it's not nearly as terrible as you've been telling yourself.

"What will I do if I shut down the firm / stop podcasting / lay people off / declare bankruptcy to get out from under the debt / take a job as a suit / get a day job / move to an apartment?" Seriously think through the question. Often the answer is... not that bad.

let's say that bad plan A you're stuck with is "live in town X, work in industry Y, for Z" and the realistic plan B is "move to town A, work in B, be employed by C". What are the side effects? Smaller house? Starting over? Maybe those side effects are OK!

Let yourself think the unthinkable. It might be that plan B is actually better than the plan A that you THINK you can't give up on.
