/ but originally it was nothing but hard packed gravel and Japanese Knotweed. I poisoned, weeded, poisoned, weeded, smothered that knotweed (it's still only 99% dead, and 1% lurking).
/ and then, to build some good soil, I covered the entire thing with HUNDREDS of hay bales from my fields. Then I got some topsoil and made narrow strands of soil atop the hay, and planted in the soil. Worked amazingly, and hay slowly decomposed, building soil.
/ Then a year later I did the same thing AGAIN, right atop the same patch. ...but some weeds were growing up from the (now pretty good) soil below, BETWEEN the second tier of bales. So I got my flame weeder.
/ so, yes, OBVIOUSLY LANA, I was aware that a flame thrower could set dry hay bales on fire. So I waited until after it rained.
/ What I didn't think about was that a 100,000 BTU flame weeder can dry out a wet hay bale in, like, 3 milliseconds
/ So I'm happily spraying fire and destruction on all of the heretical weeds, in the name of the emperor...when I hear some..."crackling" behind me. That's when I turned around and saw the DIRT FIRE I had created. Holy manure, farm man!
/ See that telephone pole in the center of the patch? If you look closely you can see black scorch marks at the base.pic.twitter.com/l66zxKyquZ
/ Thankfully I was able to run around and stamp MOST of the fire out, without setting my jeans alight. ...but I was kinda worried for a while, and kept being stuck on the horns of a dilemma:
/ keep stamping? or stop stamping and let the fire grow while I run for the barn and try to get a hose? anyway I learned a lesson that day
