some idiot in SSC comments was trying to say that oligopolies and overregulation are why we don't have 600MPG cars. Telsa cars with 100 kWh batteries (~360MJ) can go like 200 miles. The energy content of gasoline is about 100 MJ per gallon.

*130MJ. Typo Assuming that Teslas are maximally efficient (because, if efficiency is being held back by evil oil companies, why wouldn't they be), this puts the theoretical maximum efficiency of combustion engines at ~70 MPG

Guy I know is making millions on Battery recycling. Imagine if all cars ran on batteries...the mountains of spent cells? There was no battery recycling infrastructure back then and if there was, millions would be dead from heavy metal poisoning.
