"Make sure your culture is better than theirs and they will adapt and assimilate. " {{citation needed}} "odd fear of extinction here." what's odd about it? fear of extinction is an evolved trait; those who have it sometimes survive; those who don't never do

"Odd combination of ..." Careful with that cut and paste, Eugene.

I specifically edited out "triumphalism" because I was not responding to that point ; if you prefer I can cut and paste the entire tweet next time and let you guess which portion I'm responding to

Except that "combination" was central to the observation.

also, all sorts of things that are highly selected for (e.g. corn, dogs, etc.) are not competitive in unchecked environment. Weeds and wolves do better Corn and dogs do well as part of a SYSTEM where things (weeds, wolves) are kept out. "Weeds & wolves will assimilate" = false

Not so sure about that. Weeds sometimes become crops and wolves... Well, I gesture vaguely towards our dogs.

200% agreed. Long process of selection, of killing or stopping the breeding of 90% if you're saying "in 2,000 years of eugenics we could breed XYZ into model westerners" I absolutely agree

actually, "eugenics" is the wrong word, because I'm not (mostly) positing a genetic problem. If we had zero welfare and had a strong culture of "assimilate; this is America!" I'd be MUCH more open to immigration.

And I'm down with that. We should have more of that.

I want (a) that ethos, (b) more immigration. Until we get that ethos (which progs are against) I'm against more immigration.
