I didn't miss the point. I'm suggesting that he shouldn't advocate for the punishment of immigrants if they're not at fault.

Restricting someone's freedoms of movement and association is punishment.

Um, no. Saying "no thank you" is part of freedom of association. But if someone else said you can't go on a date with a person because they're from a different country, that would be restricting your freedom of association.

Does your neighbor need your permission before they rent out their spare room to someone? You don't get to interfere in the voluntary associations of others just because of proximity.

No, but that is not what we are talking about. America is our country, owned in part by all of us, and we all get a say on the laws that govern it. If a group of people are on the street in front of my house committing a crime, I do get a say in their association due to proximty.

If your defense to my argument against the laws is "but there are laws," then I don't really know what else to say.

My defense is "your proposal does not (a) maximize global utility (b) allow any sort of diversity (c) infringes on property rights, as commonly understood over millenia"

Are you referring to my proposal that anti-immigration laws restrict the freedoms of movement and association?
