so PROCESSES to find guilt are an amazing social technology. We should use them more often! The problem is that the State jumped in and declared a monopoly on that process, and does it poorly.

That said, a poor state run process is likely still better than either (a) private vengeance, (b) abstaining from private vengeance and allowing a crime against a person to go unpunished.

well actually Mark's original tweet was about the father trying to invoke the state's power. HE knows whether it was consensual or not (I assume). If it was, then Mark is right to criticize him. If not, then you're right to defend his desire to seek the state's power to punish.
