1/ Many people have described my novels as "hard science fiction", which I find slightly odd. I fudged things, like energy storage density in gyroscopic batteries, etc. I started out having dates in the novel, but removed them because was too lazy to check all the orbits.

This is a topic that has fueled a thousand flamewars before you were even born. "What is science fiction?" "... no, I mean what is REAL science fiction?" I'm generally of the opinion that either a) it's all SF, or b) the argument is boring. ... at least wrt to nomenclature.

WRT the /existence/ of the good kind of SF, or of its /prominence/ in the reading and publishing world... Eh. Fashions come and go. I'm glad that you're keeping the flame alive, and I doubt you're alone.

Watched that movie this past weekend. Still one of the greatest concert films ever.

I dislike fiction with a plot that turns on a magic spell or wave of a wand. Giant worms great, vampires lurking around, nope.

It's the Golden Age of Posers. Nerd is cool, capitalism must die, men are pigs, white supremacy is on the rise etc.
