Spent 2.5 hours digging in 40-50 feet of potatoes. Would take 20 minutes, given garden soil. New England soil, tho, meant I had to pull a couple of hundred pounds of rocks. Pick, digging bar, etc.

I get that the land will continue to produce rocks (frost pushes them up from below, etc). But if you use that same space next year, do you expect fewer rocks? Or will it always be that bad?

Yes, fewer. Rocks replenish from below slowly.
